I recently ran into my 12-year-old friend who told me, after hugs, that ICE took his daddy. He had two little sisters with him, his other brother was not with them. “He’s with mommy,” he said. “She’s going to have another baby.”
I couldn’t find any news in The Journal about ICE detaining local Mexicans – my friends and neighbors, and yours. I have watched this family for years and let the kids play in my yard and run through the sprinkler on hot days, bringing back memories of my childhood.
“ICE sent my daddy to Mexico,” they said excitedly. “We are going to get $500,” like that was going to bring their daddy back. The innocence of a child.
If anyone has anything to offer that I could do to find out more or to help my young friend, please can you message me via Facebook messaging. It is a sorrowful time for this family and me.
