M'Daniel Confesses, Oris Takes Full Blame for Killing Sheriff

The McDaniel brothers, slayers of James Westfall and Sheriff W. W. Dunlap, were apprehended about twenty miles northwest of Canon City, near the town of Guffey, and arrested Tuesday afternoon.

In a telephone interview Wednesday afternoon, District Attorney James. M. Noland said that the McDaniel brothers would be tried in San Miguel county first, and if the verdict and sentence were not satisfactory there, they would be brought to Montezuma County and tried here for the killing of James Westfall.

Arrested for Aiding McDaniel Bros.

J. R. S. Smith of Placerville was lodged in the county jail this week following his statement that about 11:00 o'clock Wednesday night, July 17, he had fed the McDaniels brothers, slayers of Sheriff W. W. Dunlap, and had showed them the easiest way to get up on Hastings Mesa to make their escape.

Del Rio Hotel Suit Settled

The suit between Wm. H. Brumley and the Railway Saving and Loan Co., which was to come up in the district court at Cortez this week, was settled out of court.

Mr. Brumley states that he is quite well satisfied with the settlement and will retain possession and ownership of the well known Del Rio Hotel and other property involved in the transaction.

New Warehouse Manager

George Fredericsen, of Summit ridge community, has taken charge of the Dolores warehouse, formerly operated by R. C. Tucker. Fredericsen is a former employee of the Colorado Mill & Elevator company, which owns the warehouse. He is handling the establishment temporarily until the company can make other arrangements.

Ritter-Greager

A marriage was performed at the office of county judge H. E. Dill Wednesday evening, July 31, at 8 o'clock when Miss Edythe Greager of Norwood became the bride of Arthur Earl Ritter of Dolores.

Town Board Names Pyle Magistrate

The town board, at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night, named Harry V. Pyle police magistrate to fill the vacancy which has existed in that place for some time.

The work of the police magistrate has until recently been preformed by P. A. Shields, but Shields had moved away which left no one to "hang it on the boys".

Canning Contest to be Aug. 20

A county canning contest will be held August 20 at Cortez in connection with the Montezuma county 4-H club achievement day. Prizes will be offered by the Kerr and Ball people.
