Dolores Project defunded

The Dolores Project is in serious trouble, being left high and dry by President Gerald Ford whose budget for the fiscal year 1977 calls for no money for construction of the Dolores Project. Ford’s budget request for the Bureau of Reclamation for Fiscal ’77 includes no money for any construction starts in the US and is called completely unrealistic and preposterous by US Representative Frank E. Evans who is deeply concerned with this new problem facing the Dolores Project.

“It is unthinkable to spend several million dollars in advance planning and engineering on the project and stop dead at construction,” Evans said.

Old timer interviews

Beginning Sunday radio station KUTA of Blanding taped stories by Dolores old timers. As a bicentennial project the stories are being taped by Dolores School students and plans call for the 15-minute stories to be heard each Sunday for a year on KUTA.

Snowmobile races

The snowmobile races held at Stoner recently sponsored by the Race and Rally Snowmobile Club were well attended by both racers and spectators. Several injuries caused by a rough track marred the day but didn’t seem to slow down the racers participating. Well over a hundred winners were presented with prize money and trophies at Stoner Alpine Lodge in the evening.
