The Glade and Dolores Districts of the San Juan National Forest will be combined into one unit, effective July 1. The purpose of the combination is to more effectively manage the Forest at a reduce cost. There will be no reduction in force. Until the new facilities are constructed on Highway 145 in Dolores, the new district will be temporarily housed at 100 ½ N. Sixth.

Rico News & Views by Charles M. Engel: Two diesel trucks coughed to a stop with jelly in their fuel tanks when the saw the cold snowpacks on the mountains around Rico on June 25. Relief came from Cortez with a service truck to drain the fuel tanks and get the boys on their way.

Rico Argentine Mining Company is expanding sampling of their Rico mines. Recoverable mineral values of the old mines can be determined by extensive sampling, and a sampling plant is in operation at the site of the acid plant. A rock crusher brought in Monday will be used in the process. Future plans for mining operations of the company may be governed by the price of metals and the information obtained by sampling.

Cortez: Six persons had escaped from the city jail last Wednesday night, and all but one, Dallas Brown, of Ignacio, were still at large as of Friday noon. Inadequacy of the jail facilities was listed as a major aid in the escapes.

Just so long as we have fireworks stands attracting youngsters (and for too many unthinking parents) - and some operators who will dig out illegal firecrackers to sell - the tremendous problem of fireworks and scattered fires will remain.

Jim R. Cattles, Jr., announced this week that he has now been appointed an authorized service center for Zenith products after having completed a course at their training center in Denver and passing an eam for radio and television servicing.
