The votes and revenue from the 2016 Dolores Mountain Quilters Guild show, held Aug. 26-27 Friday and Saturday at the Dolores Community Center, have been counted.

The winner of the raffled quilt “98 Stars” was Vicky Kuykendall, of Blanding. Quilts were judged by the public in six categories.

The numbers: The Dolores Mountain Quilters Guild displayed 123 quilts, hosted 722 visitors, counted 557 ballots, and raised $2,982 from raffle ticket sales and $3,300 from boutique sales.

“As you can see, we are very busy ladies, Gail Braunn told The Journal.

Busy indeed.

Most of the $2,982 from raffle sales will go to local charities. In the past, the guild has donated to Renew, The Dolores Elementary School Principals Fund, The Nest, The Piñon Project, Hospice of Montezuma County, The Bridge Emergency Shelter, Dolores Search and Rescue and Battlerock School.

Revenue from boutique sales will go to quilt-oriented education for the guild and supplies for the 150-200 quilts that the guild donates each year to various nursing homes, veterans, The Bridge, Renew, Child Advocacy Center, Gold Star Moms, Operation Graduation and 50-75 stuffed Christmas stockings for foster kids each year, Braunn said.

The guild has 90 members and has been around since 1986. To learn more, visit www.doloresmountainquilters.org.
