Lamm reaffirms support of Dolores Project
Governor Richard Lamm was in Cortez and Durango this week to answer questions from the public.
The big question many had come to hear discussed was brought up by Jimmy Suckla when he made a convincing presentation for no wild and scenic river status on the Dolores River. Lamm said he is for the Dolores Project and his best information is that the river study will not affect the building of the project. In fact some designation might enhance the project’s chances. Felix Sparks, of the water conservation board, said that Congress has continued to appropriate funds for the project and than any wild or scenic designation would be some time in coming and likely would not be fully studied and finalized before the Dolores Project construction is underway.

Election coming up
An election of untold importance to school children in Dolores is coming up on Tuesday when voters go to the polls to approve or disapprove a bond issue in the amount of $380,000. If the bond issue passes this will mean the re-instatement of the vocational agriculture program in the high school, along with improvements to the locker room facilities, a new science addition, and remodeling of the art, homemaking and business departments.
