Family night at Battle Rock school
Battle Rock Charter School will host a family night for parents and children on Wednesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at the school.
This open house is designed for prospective students and will offer an informational program presented by teachers Justine Bayles and Tegan Lewis and their students.
Topics discussed will include Battle Rock enrollment and curriculum, the new 4-H club and the school’s horse program, followed by questions and answers. Refreshments will be served, and all are welcome.
Battle Rock Charter School is located at 11247 Road G, Cortez.
Horsemen want your new, used tack
Mesa Verde Back Country Horsemen are requesting all unwanted new or used tack or other agriculturally based items for the tack sale in cooperation with the Four Corners Back Country Horsemen tack sale scheduled for April 4.
All items will need to be gathered and cleaned before Friday, April 3.
Volunteers needed April 3-4 for the sale. A sign-up sheet will be sent around at the March 3 meeting, located at the Elks Lodge in Cortez, at 7 p.m.

League to hear from Mike Preston
The public is invited to join the League of Women Voters of Montezuma County at a breakfast meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the Ponderosa Restaurant in Dolores.
The program will be presented by Mike Preston, general manager of the Dolores Water Conservancy District. Preston will discuss the efforts of the state of Colorado in water planning and will give an update on the 2015 water supply forecast.
Delta lodge issues call for photos
Black Canyon Camera Club is hosting the first Western Colorado Photography Showdown for edited and unedited photos.
The entry form is at www.blackcanyoncameraclub.org . A limit of 200 entries will be accepted. An early registration discount is available until March 15.
The show will be at the Delta Elks Lodge in Delta, Colo., April 24-26, 2015. This is a nonjuried show
The awards, selected by judge Steve Traudt, are Best of Show; Best of SOOTC and Best of Artistic photography divisions for each of the three expertise levels – student/novice, intermediate/advanced, professional. Additional prizes will be awarded by sponsors or by the show committee.

Library announces March reading theme
“Almost Spring” is the March theme of the Raising Readers Storytime at the Cortez Public Library, located at 202 N. Park St., in Cortez.
The preschool Storytime program is held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Older children are welcome to join for a craft at 11:15 a.m.
