A female driver was pulled over because she failed to use her turn signal in Dolores. The woman’s hands were shaking in a nervous manner when she was trying to find her driver’s license. The woman smelled of an unknown alcoholic beverage and was very unsteady on her feet when asked to perform roadside maneuvers. The officer asked her how much she had to drink, and she said, “Whatever I had at the house before I left.” She did not complete the roadside maneuvers satisfactorily and would not cooperate with the breath test; instead of blowing into the mouthpiece, she was sucking. Because she would not give a sufficient sample on the breath test, the officer considered it a refusal. The woman was arrested for driving a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs or both and failure to use a turn signal.
Thursday, Aug. 8
A man reported that some of his items were missing from his storage unit. According to the man, he had purchased a unit a few month ago and talked to the unit manager. The man said the manager had mentioned that he needed to get a lock on his unit. The man said he returned a few months later and there was a lock placed on the unit, he said he assumed the manager had placed the lock on the unit and left without talking to the manager. The man said a few days later he received a phone call from a friend saying that they had found a photo album of him in a trash can by a thrift store. He said he went to the location and found several items that belonged to him but is still missing several items. The officer will talk to the owner of the storage unit when they return from out of town to determine if there was some sort of mixup with the leasing of the unit.
Saturday, Aug. 10
At a traffic stop on CR 26, an officer was assisting by waving cars around for safety. The officer attempted to wave a vehicle around and it started going toward the southbound lane, had to slam on its brakes and almost hit the patrol vehicle. Once the vehicle was stopped, the officer tried to wave the vehicle around again and it would not move. The officer began to walk toward the vehicle when the driver started to turn around and got stuck in the ditch. By the time the officer got in his patrol car and got behind the vehicle, the driver was unstuck and taking up all lanes of traffic. The officer then advised the driver to finish turning around and to park on the side of the road. The officer asked the driver to exit the vehicle; the man could hardly stand up and was fumbling with his wallet to find his driver’s license. The man said that he had drunk a lot and felt intoxicated. The man agreed to a breath test if the officer would put a penny in his mouth. Later at the jail he refused a breath test and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Sunday, Aug. 11
Police reported to Summit Lake recreation area in reference to a theft. Two women said they went to the lake to paddle around in their canoes and get some exercise. They had left some of their belongings on the shore, and when they returned, they had asked some people if they had seen their items. The women said that a few witnesses told them that two men in a green Suburban had taken their things. The witnesses said that the two men had been asking people on the shore if the things belonged to them, and when they said no, the men took the items. The men also told witnesses that they were from the Mancos area. The officer got a good description of the vehicle and the men. The officer advised dispatch of the description of the vehicle and also notified the Mancos marshal. The marshal said he would keep an eye out for the vehicle.
