Monday, Aug. 19
An officer reported to Southwest Community College in reference to a theft. A woman explained that she noticed her iPad had been stolen from her vehicle and reported it to her supervisor. The woman’s supervisor checked the surveillance videos and noticed that the schools custodian had entered the woman’s vehicle. The custodian’s supervisor confronted him and explained that the surveillance video showed him entering the woman’s vehicle. The custodian denied having anything to do with the iPad and said he was just leaving something in the woman’s car for her. The custodian was immediately fired. Later when the supervisor returned to her office she found the iPad hanging on her office door and returned it to the woman.
Tuesday, Aug. 20
Officers went to CR 29.1 in reference to a disturbance involving a firearm. Dispatch said the caller had secured possession of the weapon he took from his wife after she had fired a round at him inside the residence. When police arrived, the man was outside and the firearm was on the ground. His wife was inside and had locked herself in the bathroom. Police gave verbal commands for the woman to exit the residence with her hands in the air. The woman exited, was handcuffed and was placed in the backseat of a patrol car.
The man said he came home from work and his wife asked him if she could talk to him about his day. He said he had to unload some stuff but to give him a minute. When he was done unloading he went and sat on the couch and started watching television. The man said his wife asked him if she could use his phone but it wouldn’t make a call. He said his wife went back toward the bathroom and then came out into the kitchen and started screaming saying she was going to shoot herself.
The man said his wife had a gun and kept messing with the safety switch and pulling the trigger but nothing was happening. He told her that she didn’t know how to use a gun and got up to get it from her when she pointed it at him and pulled the trigger. The gun fired that time and the bullet passed by the left side of his head and hit the wall behind him. The man said he could hear the bullet go past his head.
After the gun was fired the man said his wife looked even more shocked than he did. The man said he grabbed the gun from her, hit her in the head and then started kicking her in the ribs. Since the man’s wife was no longer an active threat after he took the gun away from her but he still continued to assault her, he was placed under arrest for third degree assault and domestic violence.
The woman had the same story as the man. She said that she did not want to kill herself or hurt him and that she didn’t even know how to use a gun but she just wanted her husband’s attention. The woman was arrested for reckless endangerment and domestic violence.
Wednesday, Aug. 21
An officer observed a white pickup traveling over the white fog line. At one point the entire vehicle crossed over the line. After being pulled over the driver, told the officer that he didn’t have his license because it had been revoked. The driver said he was driving because all of his friends were intoxicated and he was the only one sober. Dispatch advised the officer that none of the people in the vehicle had a valid driver’s license and that the driver had seven additional active restraints. The driver was arrested and charged with driving after revocation prohibited and failure to drive in a single lane. The passengers in the vehicle were picked up by a friend.
Thursday, Aug. 22
Police reported to a domestic dispute on Highway 160. There was a woman in the street in front of the residence; she said her husband was inside. The man was asked to come outside, which he did. The woman said she was trying to pack up her stuff when her and her boyfriend had gotten into an argument.
The woman said she told her boyfriend that she was sick of him watching porn and that is when he started yelling at her and threw a cordless phone at her. She said he also told her that if she was leaving then she needed to take her clothes off because he bought them and they belonged to him, and then he tried to rip her clothes off. The woman said she tried to push him away and he kicked her in the stomach. She said she was concerned cause she is two months pregnant. The woman got away from him and called her mother, who then called the sheriff’s office.
She said that when her boyfriend found out the police were called he became even more upset and punched her on the side of the head. The woman also said that about a week before, her boyfriend had stabbed her in the leg with a screwdriver. The officer asked her why she didn’t call the police when it happened and she said cause she feared what he might do. The man said he was trying to help the woman pack and they started to verbally argue but that it never got physical. The man was arrested for third degree assault and domestic violence.
