Just a block north of downtown Cortez in the back yard of a local resident, three western screech owls visit nightly, possibly to begin their night of hunting. Searching the trees, the owls can be spotted sitting wide-eyed watching every movement. Occasionally, they fly from tree limbs to perch on fence posts or the wood pile, usually sitting apart but sometimes perching next to each other. They seem oblivious to cars passing by and the noises of the city surrounding their hunting grounds.
It’s a hoot! When these owls get together in Cortez
