Hartel named campaign head

The Greg Brophy gubernatorial campaign has named Bruce Hartel of Cortez/Dolores as the Montezuma County chairman for the campaign in the Republican primary. Hartel has experience in political campaigns, from the Ronald Reagan presidential runs to recent campaigns for the Colorado Speaker of the House and several state congressmen.

Hartel has told the Cortez Journal that after meeting Brophy on his recent visit to Cortez, he decided, “Greg Brophy’s straight talk and small-town values are just what we need in Colorado. As one of the state’s most conservative lawmakers, Senator Brophy has fought on the frontlines of every bill that matters. He will be a governor who listens to hard-working Coloradans, not out-of-state special interest groups. He believes our 2nd Amendment rights should never be weakened. He was a leader in the fight to protect gun rights for our citizens.”

Hartel invites any Montezuma County resident who shares these views to contact him at montezumaforgreg@gmail.com. “By working together, we can elect a staunch fiscal conservative who has consistently fought to cut spending and opposed tax increases on working families,” Hartel said.

Dolores River Anglers to meet

The Dolores River Anglers will have a general membership meeting on Nov. 18 downstairs at Fiesta Mexicana Restaurant. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m., and meet-and-greet time at 6 p.m.

James Roberts, a researcher with the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology, Colorado State University, has spent the past several years leading a team analyzing the probable impacts of climate change on cutthroat populations in the Upper Colorado River Basin, which includes the Dolores River Basin. James will be joined by Chris Rasmussen, a local riparian ecology researcher who is leading a multiyear ecological study of the lower Colorado Basin riparian areas. Their collective insights as to what is likely to unfold in our fisheries over the ensuing years should be very informative.
