The Dolores Mountain Quilters have announced the winners of their recent biennial quilt show, which the group said drew 141 entries from 58 quilters and attracted about 650 visitors from Aug. 21 to Aug. 22.
The raffle quilt was won by Vernell Andrews, member of the San Juan Quilt Guild, from Farmington.
The people’s choice first-place award winners were Linda Jahraus in the large bed category, Diane Weitzenkamp in medium bed, LouAnn Burkett in small bed, Jan Shepherd in large wall, Margien Gram in medium wall and Peggy Youngs in small wall. Both the art quilt and best of show honors went to the group Blocks Without Borders.

Dolores Mountain Quilters’ Judith Swain said that more than 60 volunteers helped support the event, with children and parents from the Montezuma Martial Academy helping with the setup and teardown. The quilters are helping support the academy as they prepare to represent the U.S. at a tournament in France this fall.
The guild’s Quilt Boutique sold homemade gifts at the show, while Cortez Quilt Company, Sew Renewable and Quilt It! Ya-Ya offered fabric, kits, patterns and more to attendees.
In addition to their shows, the Dolores Mountain Quilters donate $4,000 to a local nonprofit each year and provide quilts to community members in need. Swain shared that in 2025, the group donated more than 80 quilts to people in need and to fundraising efforts, along with 83 handmade, filled Christmas stockings to the Montezuma County Foster Care program.
The group meets at 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave.
