Musicians are gearing up to stage free outdoor performances along Main Street in Cortez on Saturday for the sixth annual Worldwide Play Music on the Porch Day.
The event is organized by ZU Gallery and the Cortez Retail Enhancement Association, with the theme: “What if for one day everything stopped … and we all just listened to the music.”
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with 11 musicians at 11 different locations, each playing an hourlong set. With this setup, there will be a live performance happening somewhere on Main Street throughout the day, ZU Gallery founder and director Jodi Jahrling told The Journal. The event will begin with Sunny Gable at 10 a.m. at FB Organics, 1 W. Main St., and close with The Lindells at 8 p.m. at the ZU Gallery, 48 W. Main St.

11 a.m.: Mark Allen at Blondie’s Trophy Room, 45 E. Main.
Noon: Amanda Vodicka at Main Street Brewery, 21 E. Main.
1 p.m.: Hagen McDonell at The Penny Pincher, 33 E. Main.
2 p.m.: Tracy Wiebeck at Patina Trails Mercantile, 30 E. Main.
3 p.m.: Willie Perritt at Merriweather Home + Market, 40 E. Main.
4 p.m.: High Desert Strays at High Desert Life Outdoors, 28 W. Main.
5 p.m.: FCCB Brass Quintet at Loungin’ Lizard, 2 W. Main.
6 p.m.: Moe & Tomoe at Bitterblossom Games, 8 W. Main.
7 p.m.: Jake McIntosh at Agave Azul Taqueria & Bar, 44 W. Main.
8 p.m.: The Lindells at ZU Gallery, 48 W. Main.
Jahrling said every musician will receive a guaranteed $100 cash payment for the hour they play, plus tips, under the ZU Arts Initiative’s Fair Play Pledge. Under this pledge, artists and crew receive a base wage, with tips provided in addition to the pay. Tips are never used as a substitute for pay, Jahrling said.
Jahrling and CREA’s A.J. Dillon encourage visitors who come out for the music to also shop or dine at participating locations for a chance to win $100 Cortez Cash Cards.
