With only one weekend of racing remaining in the 2026 Motocross season, the Lawrence brothers, Hunter and Jett, have only one point separating them. One of the brothers will be crowned champion.
Jett Lawrence is the 2025 Motocross 450SX champion, and Hunter Lawrence has yet to win a championship. Currently, Hunter sits in first and Jett in second. Heading into Budds Creek on Saturday, Jett Lawrence was 10 points ahead of his older brother.
The weekend took place on a wet track after rain, heightening the stakes for the “ultra close” championship.
In the first race of the day, Haiden Deegan took the hole shot with Cortez’s Eli Tomac in second and Hunter Lawrence in third. A rough start put Jett Lawrence in 18th place out of the gate. A brief ride off the track at the start also cost Jett a license point.
Hunter Lawrence put pressure on Deegan, eventually shooting past him for the lead. Tomac moved to third.
Jett Lawrence fell to 22nd before quickly making his way through the pack. While the top three remained the same, Jett found himself in 10th place at the 10-minute mark.
Tomac’s teammate Jorge Prado took third as Jett Lawrence moved to eighth.
Hunter Lawrence placed first in Moto 1, followed by Deegan, Prado, Tomac and Jett Lawrence.
In the second Moto, Hunter Lawrence claimed the hole shot, staying in first place for the entirety of the race for a weekend sweep. Behind him around the first corner were Prado and Justin Barcia. Deegan was in ninth, Jett 11th and Tomac 17th.
Jett Lawrence moved quickly to seventh as Mikkel Haarup passed Barcia for third. Not long later, Jett Lawrence flew past four riders to claim third, setting his sights on Prado.
“It’s all on the line now,” commentators said.
Prado attempted to block Jett’s advances, but he wasn’t able to hold him off for long. Jett Lawrence passed for second, finishing the race behind his older brother, who won the race and reclaimed the points lead heading into this weekend’s final.
Overall for the weekend, Hunter Lawrence placed first, Prado second and Deegan third. Jett Lawrence placed fourth and Tomac placed ninth.
The final weekend of racing for the 2026 Motocross season will be held on Saturday at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
