Saxophonist and guitarist Thom LaFond and Jesse Shantor will perform a rare jazz duo concert Saturday at Fenceline Cider.
LaFond and Shantor are best known for their work in the Colorado band Banshee Tree, but instead of putting on a show with the full ensemble, they will be creating an intimate evening of jazz saxophone and guitar. Fenceline said the duo will transform the cidery into a temporary jazz club, and the free concert runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“Combining exceptional artistry with a dynamic stage presence, the duo brings warmth, spontaneity and excitement to every performance, offering audiences a unique musical experience in the welcoming atmosphere of Fenceline,” a news release from Fenceline said.
LaFond told The Journal that he and Shantor love playing in the area, and it was a connection in Key West that caused the duo to first come to Mancos years ago.
“We are planning on having a lot of fun,” LaFond said. “Jesse and I love improvising as a duo, so you never know what’s going to happen. It can go from very serious and heartfelt to very silly fast.”
Fenceline added that the set will draw from 1940s swing, blues, bossa nova and original music.
Craft cider and beer on tap will be offered during the show. Banshee Tree also recently released a record called “Bad Luck.” The music is available on all streaming platforms.
