A free three-day skateboarding camp for children ages 8 to 15 will take place next month at Dolores’s Lost Canyon Skate Park in partnership with Square State Skate of Boulder. The skate park is located in Dolores’s Joe Rowell Park, 101 Railroad Ave.
The sleepaway camp, scheduled in two sessions from Aug. 3-5 and Aug. 5-7, includes all lessons, meals and lodging courtesy of the Dolores Bike Hostel. The program is valued at $350 per participant, and aims to provide a camp experience to students who may otherwise miss out on summer camp prior to the start of the upcoming school year, information from the Dolores Bike Hostel said.
Square State Skate staff will lead sessions that teach skateboarding fundamentals and other life skills like balance, confidence, determination and problem-solving. Children of all skill levels and backgrounds are welcome to participate.
Each session has the space for 12 campers, with day trips to Rico and Telluride planned. Campers will also participate in creative sessions at the Cortez Fundamental Needs Makerspace.
Transportation support is also available, with possible pickups and drop-offs in Cortez and Towaoc.
