Lamp Post Creative Learning Center is marking the end of its first full season with summer performances and a barbecue as a celebration of the center’s efforts to bring more art, music and theater drama into the community.
Lamp Post’s second annual Kids Summer Theatre Camp is presenting two musicals in July. The plays are “The Jungle Book” and “101 Dalmatians,” both in kids’ editions. The shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. July 17 and 2 and 7 p.m. July 18. Tickets are available online at lamppostclc.booktix.com.
Though this is Lamp Post’s second year doing kids’ camps, this will be the first year the kids’ camp performances will be hosted at Lamp Post’s location, 32171 U.S. Highway 160. Last year, “Finding Nemo Jr.” was held at First Assembly of God Church.
Nearly 70 children are participating in the camps, with one session taking place in the morning, and the other in the afternoon.
Lamp Post is also inviting the community to its End-of-Season Barbecue at 5:30 p.m. July 25. The potluck event will feature games, food, desserts and a photo slideshow, followed by a board presentation highlighting the year’s events and next season’s plans, including an announcement for upcoming shows.
Attendees are asked to bring items based on the first letter of their last name, with burgers and hot dogs provided by the organization. RSVPs are requested by Monday, July 20 to angelagabardi28@gmail.com or mirissayarbrough@gmail.com.
In August, the Four Corners Community Band, who rehearses at Lamp Post, will perform a free concert at the Cortez Cultural Center at 7 p.m. Aug. 15 to celebrate the Cortez’s 140th anniversary. The program includes an original piece, “Cortez Overture,” composed by local Jadon Cruzan.
Lamp Post is also pursuing a capital campaign to purchase the buildings and property they are utilizing from Rock Springs Church, with a goal $500,000. Details are available at lamppostclc.org/donate.
Lamp Post can be found hosting a table at the Third Thursday events in Montezuma Park for the remainder of the summer.
