Mesa Verde Gardeners will hold its 16th Annual Plant Sale on May 23 at a new location in the Children’s Kiva parking lot, 601 N. Mildred Road. The sale is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. and will go until plants and produce are sold out.

The event will offer a variety of plants, including vegetables and flowers. Available items will include tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, onions, kabocha squash, cucumbers, greens, herbs and more. Annual flowers such as marigolds, sunflowers, asters and daisies will also be available, along with many different “hardy” perennial flowers suitable for the Southwest Colorado region. Those who arrive early may also find iris and berries.

The plants are mostly grown by Mesa Verde Garden Club members, with additional contributions from local growers. Part of the proceeds are then donated.

“We are excited to offer such a grand selection of plants mostly grown and cared for by our Mesa Verde Garden Club members and are also grateful to our local commercial growers for their plant contributions to the sale,” Laurie Hall, this year’s organizer, said in a news release. “We are especially pleased to award a portion of our fundraising to local food safety organizations.”

Mesa Verde Gardeners, a nonprofit, shared that they use the plant sale as a yearly fundraiser to support horticulture, food security and education for local gardeners and plant enthusiasts.

The event has become a highlight for the local gardening community each year.

“The plant sale brings the entire local gardening community together each year – growers, buyers, plant educators, backyard enthusiasts and all appreciators of natural grown beauty,” Ann Streett-Joslin, president of Mesa Verde Gardeners, said. “Smiles can be seen in every direction at the sale.”
