This is the sixth time in seven years that the program has been awarded

The Cortez Middle School band program has been named a “Best Community for Music Education – Individual School” by the NAMM Foundation, marking the sixth time in the past seven years the program has received the national award.

The award, which was given a slightly different name this year, recognizes individual schools and districts across the U.S. for their work in providing access to music and music education to all of its students.

Cortez Middle School was one of just 127 elementary, middle and high schools nationwide to earn the honor this year. They were also the only school in Colorado to be selected.

The award highlights schools that demonstrate strong commitment to music education, and determines recipients by looking at things like student participation, teacher qualifications, curriculum standards, program support and more.
