Hunter Lawrence increased his overall points lead to nine after a night of racing at Supercross’s Round 10 on Saturday in Birmingham, Alabama. The victory was Lawrence’s third win in four rounds.

Cortez’s Eli Tomac held his second-place position in the overall points standings despite placing third in the 450SX main event.

In the main event, Tomac, who raced in the last chance qualifier prior to the feature, and teammate Jorge Prado shot out of the gate, but Prado edged Tomac for the hole shot. Lawrence passed both riders on the first lap to take the lead. With Prado racing between Lawrence and Tomac, Lawrence built a comfortable advantage and held the top spot for the remainder of the race.

Ken Roczen came from behind after a “terrible” start, passing third-place Prado and second-place Tomac, who had just moved into position behind Lawrence, in “an impressive charge.”

Roczen then charged after Lawrence but was unable to get close enough to attempt a pass.

“Mad dog” Lawrence won, with Roczen placing second and Tomac third.

“Hunter is starting to take control,” commentators said, noting that Lawrence has stretched his overall points lead to nine points.

“I just wasn’t as good tonight as the front two, so that’s about it,” Tomac told KTM after the race. “Of course, the LCQ was very stressful and a high-pressure moment, but I got myself out there to a good start from the inside gate, and I just got beat tonight. I was a little bit off and it was one of those nights that was tough, so we’ll try to regroup for next weekend and see if we can get back up front.”

In Heat 1, Cooper Webb claimed the hole shot, barely beating Lawrence around the corner. Malcolm Stewart raced behind in third.

Lawrence attempted to pass Webb, but it was not enough. Webb finished first and Lawrence second.

In the second heat, Tomac led into the corner, but Justin Cooper took the hole shot. Prado moved into second. Roczen soon passed both Tomac and Prado, pushing Tomac into fourth.

Roczen passed Cooper for the lead. Tomac attempted to pass Cooper as well, but Cooper’s leg became tangled around Tomac’s rear tire, causing mechanical issues. Tomac was forced to pull over for repairs, requiring him to race in the last chance qualifier to earn a spot in the main event.

Round 11 of Supercross is scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at Ford Field in Detroit.
