The Mancos School District RE-6 will host Family Connection Night on Wednesday, March 11, at Mancos Elementary School from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event will include a free family dinner and child care and will offer workshops, children’s activities and other programming designed to support family engagement and growth in the district.
All Mancos families – including those whose children do not attend district schools – are welcome to participate, Superintendent Audrey Hazleton told The Journal. Attendees may join one session, multiple sessions or stay for the entire evening, depending on their preference.
“Strong family-school partnerships are the foundation of everything we do here in Mancos. We believe that true student success happens when the learning extends from the classroom into the living room and beyond,” Liza Eschallier, Gifted and Talented and Multilingual Language Learning coordinator and a member of the planning team, said. “Our goal with the Family Connection Night is to create a space where families truly feel seen, heard and empowered as partners in our students’ success.”
Workshops tailored for parents and guardians will focus on topics such as emotional regulation, perfectionism and anxiety, children in the digital world and talking with kids about difficult subjects.
These topics were not selected randomly. During fall parent-teacher conferences, families were asked what they wanted to learn more about. From those responses, the district identified more than 15 presenters to address the topics during the workshops, Molly Ender, district social worker and a member of the planning team, said.
For children, the School Community Youth Collaborative will provide afterschool programming from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Open child care for children age 3 and older will be available in the Little Jay Gym from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., featuring games, a movie and Lego bricks. Parents must check children in and out with SCYC staff.
