Mancos school district seeks input in hiring new secondary principal

The Mancos RE-6 school district is seeking input from parents, students, staff and community members as it begins hiring a new principal for Mancos Secondary School. Current principal James Hughes has submitted his resignation, and he will leave at the end of the 2025–26 school year.

“We are grateful for James’ commitment and service to our students, staff and community,” the district said via email. “We wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors going forward.”

The district has begun its hiring process. A listening session was held March 4, and the topic will be discussed further at the District Accountability Committee meeting on Tuesday, March 10 at 5:30 p.m.

An online survey is available for participants to share the experience, knowledge and qualities they want to see in the next principal.

Community members may also serve on interview panels during tentative in-person interviews and campus visits on March 16 or 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Planned activities include a student tour, student interview panel, community interview panel, a superintendent review and a community meet-and-greet.

Those interested in serving on a panel may indicate so in the survey or email Janet Fogel, HR director, at jfogel@mancosre6.edu. Questions may be directed to Fogel or superintendent Audrey Hazleton at ahazleton@mancosre6.edu.
