Cortez’s Eli Tomac won his eighth Daytona Supercross 450SX race on Saturday, marking another “magical” race in Florida. Tomac’s win puts him only one point behind current overall points leader Hunter Lawrence.

Tomac has 170 points.

In the main event at Daytona International Speedway, Lawrence claimed the hole shot while Tomac got “pinched off,” going around the first corner, where he rode in fifth place behind Malcolm Stewart. Ken Roczen and Cooper Webb raced behind Lawrence in second and third.

Roczen quickly passed Lawrence, taking first place while Tomac moved to fourth. After securing fourth place, Tomac passed Webb and Lawrence, putting his sights on Roczen and quickly narrowing his lead.

Tomac slingshot out of a corner, moving past Roczen to take the lead to the excited roar of the crowd. Lawrence passed Roczen for second.

“That was gnarly what ET just did,” commentators said. “There is just something magical about Eli Tomac and Daytona International Speedway.”

Tomac led for the remainder of the race, winning in Daytona for the eighth time. Lawrence placed second and Roczen third.

“Somehow I have won eight Daytona Supercrosses,” Tomac said in a KTM news release following the race. “I just go out there and roost the berms like I’m at my home track – I love this dirt and the way it develops. Of course, I had to work for it there tonight, I went through all my main competition and just had a great time on my motorcycle.”

During the trophy ceremony, Tomac’s trophy broke, hitting him in the mouth and breaking one of his teeth. He didn’t let the moment sour his win, taking to Instagram with a humorous selfie, saying, “It’ll buff out.”

In Heat 1 earlier in the evening, Tomac took the hole shot, followed by Webb. He established a commanding lead early on, with commentators saying, “This guy is just absolutely lighting it up.”

Tomac led for the entire heat to win by nearly six seconds. Webb placed second, and Roczen came from behind for third.

In the second heat, Lawrence led from the start for the hole shot, with Stewart and Joey Savatgy close behind. Stewart attempted to take the lead in an “epic battle.” Stewart and Lawrence jumped and rode over the whoops side by side on the first lap.

Lawrence held on to the lead, and Savatgy ended up passing Stewart for second. Stewart placed third.

Round 9 of the 2026 Supercross season will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 7.
