The Canyons of the Ancients National Monument is offering a hands-on block printing workshop led by artist-in-residence Vicki Conley on Saturday, March 14, at the Visitor Center and Museum, 27501 Colorado Highway 184 in Dolores.

There will be two sessions, one from 10 a.m. to noon and a second from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Attendees will design and create small relief printing blocks using noncarving techniques. Designs inspired by the monument’s landscapes, plants and wildlife will be printed on paper and fabric. Visitor Center Manager Jennifer Humphreys said that fabric prints can be turned into stitched patches for clothing or backpacks, and selected pieces may be incorporated into a collaborative quilt.

All supplies will be provided. The workshop is open to ages 8 and older, with each session limited to 12 participants.

Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Register at the monument’s website, www.swcocanyons.org/events.

The event is sponsored by the Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance, Ancient Echoes and the Bureau of Land Management.
