Another sales tax without a plan

I’ve lost track of all of the proposals over the years. A $40 million tax for “fiber to every home in the county” … or “broadband to every rooftop” … or some such thing. A tax for “road Improvements” with no specific proposals for where, when and how much. “Just give us the money!” A tax for more “law enforcement” resources, again with no specifics.

It’s all fine, though – the tourists will have to pay their share (dang outsiders), as will we all who live and shop here.

Meanwhile, county leaders have turned away from solar generation possibilities, which do indeed generate revenues. Opposed by some of their landowner cronies and supported by others, they can’t make a decision, so instead they do nothing. Deer in the headlights.

Their loyal supporters will bitterly continue to complain about their property tax increases while voting against the sales tax increase, as they’ve always done.

What’s the future plan for life here in Montezuma County? Hoping that doing the same thing over and over again will keep things the same as they’ve always been, only better?
