The Journal accepted a long letter from a representative from Ault, Colorado, in Weld County of an organization called “Safe and Healthy Colorado” (Journal, Dec. 31). The arguments used by this organization to support the elimination of fossil fuels and move to 100% renewable energy are based in emotion and pure ignorance.
What?! We are only going to allow electric vehicles, semi trucks, farm and construction equipment to operate in Colorado? Only electric lawn mowers and trimmers? What would we use to power our emergency generators?
Eliminate petroleum and natural gas, and you can kiss goodbye to anything made with plastics, many of our critical pharmaceuticals, most of our clothing, transportation and most of the economy including heat in the winter and AC in the summer.
Why do you think the Europeans are going back to fossil fuels to provide their energy needs?! Wind and solar power sources are incapable of providing us the energy we need for survival at our present level. And they require government subsidies to even be constructed due to the fact that they are not economically feasible.
Colorado is blessed with an abundance of energy resources including gas, oil, coal, uranium for nuclear, and hydro that provide the energy we need and good jobs. It would be stupid to abandon them.
