Mancos’ Daves, Cortez’s Pipkin earn all-state spirit honors

Two Montezuma County cheer captains capped standout seasons with statewide recognition, earning honorable mention on the Colorado High School Activities Association’s all-state spirit teams.

The Panthers placed 10th in the 3A cheer division, while the Jays finished fifth in the 2A/3A co-ed class, with Emma Pipkin and Madison Daves providing leadership for their squads.

For Daves, the honor marks a second all-state mention, following a 2023 selection. Pipkin earned the recognition for the first time.

As captain of the Bluejays, Daves helped secure a regional title this fall – highlighting growth that has turned Mancos cheerleading into one of the state’s top small-school programs. Pipkin, also a captain, anchored a young M-CHS team that overcame challenges to compete at state – the first appearance for most of its members.

Nominations came from schools in six categories, covering hundreds of teams and thousands of athletes. All-state designations – first team or honorable mention – depended on whether a team reached its division finals.
