For most of head coach Anthony Mestas’ lineup, Saturday’s trip to northern Colorado marked their first taste of postseason play. No. 28 Montezuma-Cortez (7-17) battled valiantly against regional host Wellington, but the Eagles pulled away in the middle innings to knock out the Panthers.

M-CHS struck first in the top of the first inning as junior Raegan Veach reached base and scored on classmate Jayden White’s extra-base hit. Wellington (20-4-1) answered with three runs in its first turn at the plate.

Four Panthers collected hits on the afternoon, led by White’s multi-hit performance. Veach, sophomore Paislee Mestas and junior AnnaLisa Abeyta also reached via base knocks. Abeyta went the distance in the circle, striking out three Eagles in the Panthers’ season finale.

M-CHS returns virtually its entire lineup for the 2026 fall season, setting the stage for exciting softball ahead.

Dolores 2, Lone Star 1

The Bears improved to 17-1 after sweeping a late-season tournament hosted by Caliche. Dolores cruised past the host Buffaloes (25-22, 25-19) and Spartans (25-13, 25-4), then capped the day with a hard-fought win over Class 1A power Lone Star (25-23, 23-25, 15-8).

DHS returns to league play Tuesday with a match against Ridgway, followed by a Thursday afternoon contest against Telluride at DHS Fieldhouse.

Sanford 3, Mancos 0 (Friday)

In their annual volleyball-football meeting with Sanford, the Bluejays dropped a tough contest to the Mustangs as they continue a challenging stretch of their schedule. With nonleague play complete, Mancos (7-12, 4-5 Class 2A/1A San Juan Basin League) faces four league matches in the final 10 days of the season — needing a surge to climb back into playoff contention. That push begins Tuesday at home against Telluride, followed by a trip to Ridgway on Saturday.

Dove Creek 3, Ouray 0 (Thursday)

The Bulldogs (3-14, 2-5 Class 2A/1A SJBL) earned their third win of the season with a 25-18, 25-22, 25-7 sweep of the visiting Trojans. Head coach Erin Barry’s squad will play three of its final four matches at home, starting Tuesday against Nucla and continuing Saturday against Ignacio.

Grand County 3, M-CHS 2 (Wednesday)

The Panthers (11-11, 2-6 Class 3A Intermountain League) nearly completed a reverse sweep against the host Devils but fell short in a 15-12 tiebreaking set. M-CHS is locked into the Class 3A postseason but has one more regular-season match to try to secure its first winning record since 2021. The Panthers host North Fork on Tuesday before awaiting their playoff fate.
