Ezekiel Whiskers, 25, was arrested Sept. 19 after being identified as the shooter in a weapons incident near Good Sam’s Food Pantry in Cortez.
Witnesses attending a pet food giveaway told The Journal they heard two gunshots and watched as one man chased another down an alleyway. Both men were detained at Montezuma Park.
According to Cortez Police Department, witnesses and video footage identified Whiskers as the shooter. No casualties or injuries occurred.
Whiskers faces six charges, including menacing, carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, prohibited use of a weapon, and violation of a protection order.
Whiskers, who police said appeared intoxicated, also faces a charge of possessing a weapon while under the influence.
Whiskers was one of two men detained after the incident. The second was released after officers determined he was not involved.
Whiskers remains in custody on a $50,000 bond. His next court appearance in Montezuma County District Court is Oct. 14 at 9:30 a.m.
