AG Weiser announced in January he is running for Colorado governor

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser will be in Cortez Friday morning, Sept. 12, for a community conversation with Montezuma County.

Weiser is scheduled to hold the public event at the Cortez Chamber of Commerce from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Colorado Attorney General’s Office.

The conversation will focus on “timely priorities for Southwestern Colorado, including environmental topics, opioid response, housing, economic development, youth mental health, and other issues raised by Montezuma County participants,” the release said.

Weiser entered office as attorney general in 2019, becoming the first Democrat to hold the position in 15 years. He was reelected in 2022.

During his tenure, he’s been involved in high-stakes litigation, ranging from opioid settlements to lawsuits against the administration of President Donald Trump.

Having announced a run for governor in January, Weiser stands among the 30-plus candidates as one of the only high-profile contenders next to U.S. Sen. Michael Bennett.
