Four people were flown to hospitals Tuesday night after a head-on collision injured seven people on Colorado Highway 145 northeast of Dolores.

About 5 p.m., a Chevy Silverado carrying four people traveling south on Colorado 145 drove into the northbound lane near mile marker 33, Colorado State Patrol Capt. Angela DeGuelle told The Journal. In an apparent attempt to pass, the Silverado skidded and hit the front end of a northbound Ford Ranger occupied by three people.

Four people suffered serious injuries, and three suffered minor injuries.

Of the four with serious injuries, one was evacuated directly from the scene in a CareFlight helicopter. The other three people in the crash were taken to Southwest Memorial Hospital and then to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction.

Approximate location of crash

DeGuelle could not say which of the four with serious bodily injuries occupied what vehicles. No deaths have been reported.

Among the seven people included in the collision, one minor was present.

No indication of intoxication or impaired driving was found, DeGuelle said.

About 6:45 p.m., traffic was alternated, and Colorado 145 was shut down at 7:50 p.m. for vehicle removal.

The crash is still under investigation.
