The Montezuma-Cortez school district has verified that former Mesa Elementary School principal Robert Laymon has been reassigned to the position of athletic director.
Replacing Laymon at Mesa Elementary is new principal David Thorenton and assistant principal Melissa Carver.
“While many decisions made in the district reflect personal requests, there are some that are made to better our organizational needs,” Superintendent Tom Burris said in response to an email from The Journal regarding the then-alleged change.
Burris did not respond to the question about whether or not former athletic director Colton Trosclair had been assigned to another position in the district as well.
As of this writing, the announcement of Laymon’s reassignment has not been formally announced.
