The oath that the incoming president takes on Inauguration Day reads as follows: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
One would think that the person taking that oath would know what exactly he or she was swearing to wouldn’t you? Or is it because the president failed to place his hand on the Bible when taking that oath, that it makes it OK to not have to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States?”
