The Mancos School District Board of Education has named three finalists in its search for a new superintendent, and interviews are scheduled for Friday, May 9.
The finalists are Audrey Hazleton, who is working in Singapore; John (Gib) Ostheimer from Wyoming; and Mary Marable, who is from Mancos. They were selected from seven applicants, who were screened by McPherson & Jacobson, who were hired to help the district in their superintendent selection process. McPherson and Jacobson, according to their website, have placed over 750 superintendents in schools and are one of the leading national superintendent search firms.
The firm conducted “extensive background checks,” per an email from the district.
The board held a meeting to review the candidates on April 30. In this meeting, the interview questions were finalized and an interview schedule was set. On Thursday, May 8, the superintendent finalists will tour the Mancos schools and take part in a community meet and greet at the district’s performance center from 4:15 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
At this meet-and-greet, the community can meet the candidates and provide their input. After the event, the candidates will have dinner with the board.
On May 9, the finalists will have an interview with the board and stakeholders, and the board will select a new superintendent after that event. The chosen candidate will most likely start around the beginning of July.
The finalists’ individual applications can be viewed online at www.mancosre6.edu/board-of-education/superintendent-search.
