Arby’s, the fast-food chain made for meat lovers, plans to release venison sandwiches nationwide, and elk sandwiches in Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.

The venison sandwich will be available Saturday, Oct. 21, in all 3,300 Arby’s restaurants, including the one in Cortez. The elk sandwich will be available in three restaurants.

The venison sandwiches were tested last year and sold out in minutes, according to USA Today. They will be available while supplies last.

“On the 21st, we’ll get so much of it, and then we’ll see how it goes, said Danielle Huffman, assistant manager at the Cortez Arby’s at 504 S. Broadway.

Arby’s marketing officer Jim Taylor called it the “biggest venison promotion in the world.”

Arby’s uses a supplier in New Zealand that sells grass-fed free-range venison, USA Today said.

The venison sandwich features a thick-cut venison steak and crispy onions topped with a juniper berry sauce on a toasted specialty roll. The venison is marinated in garlic, salt and pepper and then sous-vide for three hours until juicy and tender. The juniper berry sauce is a Cabernet steak sauce infused with juniper berries, giving the sandwich another twist.

The elk sandwich uses a blackberry port wine sauce.
