Julie Orr will present “New Caledonia and its Archaeology” at the next meeting of the San Juan Basin Archaeological Society, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 12 in the Lyceum at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College.
The public is invited.
Orr’s work on New Caledonia was spurred by trips to Panama, where she was introduced to the 1698 Scottish attempt to establish a colony there. One of the benefits of that research was exposure to a different type of archaeology than what she had become accustomed to working in the Southwest.
A pre-meeting social is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., before the regular meeting.
