The Nathan Yip Foundation announced Wednesday that its Colorado Rural Teacher Grant application is open. The grants can be used for classroom projects that have a positive impact on student learning, according to a news release.

Teachers in rural areas can apply until Sept. 15, and recipients will be announced in late October. School districts in Montezuma County are eligible to apply, according to the Colorado Department of Education’s Rural and Small Rural Designation list.

According to the Nathan Yip Foundation’s website, teachers can request up to $2,500 to go toward things like classroom improvements, supplies and student outings.

In 2022, Dolores Elementary received $2,950 for “Lego Education SPIKE Essentials for Teaching STEAM,” according to the foundation. Dolores High received $2,938 for graphing calculators.

The foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity that takes donations and gifts and then are invested in rural schools. The Nathan Yip Foundation “specializes in providing funding, materials, expertise, and access to strategic partnerships to help develop programs to improve the quality of education to schools and communities that can’t otherwise afford the time or resources,” according to the website.
