Galloping Goose society grateful for train transport

The Galloping Goose Historical Society of Dolores (GGHS) wants to thank Weeminuche Construction Authority (WCA) for transporting Galloping Goose No. 5 to the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad for two one-week excursions this past August and September.

This service was provided to GGHS at no cost as a community service. We want to thank Sheldon House, General Manager, and Jed Tallent, Equipment Manager at WCA, for their work in arranging and scheduling the truck. Special thanks go to Andy Begay, the WCA truck driver, who skillfully and safely delivered No. 5 to and from Chama, New Mexico, on both excursions.

We also want to acknowledge the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe for authorizing WCA, which is part of the Ute Mountain Ute Enterprises, to transport No. 5. The transportation service provided is a significant savings for GGHS. The funds generated from excursions help GGHS cover the cost of our required liability insurance, the year round overhead costs of operating our museum and building, and the maintenance costs of keeping No. 5 in sound mechanical condition.

By helping GGHS carry out its mission of preserving the history of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad and the Dolores River Valley, we believe the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe has provide a community service to the entire community of Montezuma County. Our thanks to Tribal Council Chairman Manual Heart and Tribal Council members Marissa Box, Deanne House, Malcolm Lehi, Juanita Plentyholes, Pricilla Rentz, and Regina Lopez-Whiteskunk.

Respectfully yours,

Lew Matis, Vice President
