Oil Well Drilled Near Groundhog

An oil well being drilled near Groundhog Lake by Signal Drilling for Montcrief Oil Company out of Ft. Worth, Texas, was drilled to a depth of 6195 feet this week according to Jack Binkley, the local representative for Montcrief. They are logging and testing the well at the present time, "But it doesn't look like it is going to be a producer," said Binkley.

Thompsons Killed in Three-Car Accident

Word was received late Thursday of the death of two well known Dolores residents, Dud and Elaine Thompson, as the result of a head-on collision in an accident involving three vehicles at the intersection of Interstate 70 and Rooney Rd. near Wheatridge at 11:25 a.m. Thursday morning.

Marijuana Destroyed by Sheriff's Dept.

Last week members of the Montezuma County Sheriff's Dept. destroyed approximately 200 full grown marijuana plants found growing in a field five miles northeast of Cortez. The plants were harvested and then taken and burned by the Sheriff's Dept.

Bears Play Pagosa on Friday

Dolores Bears will face the Pagosa Springs Pirates today, Friday, Sept. 19 on the Bear' home field at 7:30 p.m. Asst. Coach Brian Tobin says the Bears are looking forward to clobbering the scrappy Pagosa team this evening.

Dolores Volleyball Team Wins Again

Both the Dolores Varsity and JV Volleyball girls remain undefeated this season after winning over Nucla, Cortez, and Durango teams on September 12, 13, and 16, said Coach Susan Cancilla.

Voice of Democracy in Dolores School

Buddy Ward Post No. 5241 of Cortez, Colo., Veterans of Foreign Wars has started the Voice of Democracy program in the Dolores High School. Student counselor John Dwire is helping with the program, which is open to all Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors.

Forest Service Burns the Woods

The Dolores District, San Juan National Forest, is planning to prescribe burn 3,500 acres of ponderosa pine timber land. The prescribe burn is planned for the Boggy Draw area in the fall of 1975 and spring of 1976.

County Withdraws from Region 9 Planning Commission

Cigarette Tax State Warrant in the amount of $1104.70 was received by the county commissioners at their meeting on Monday as Montezuma County's share of the cigarette tax.

New Baby Boy

Mr. and Mrs. Dale Goodall of Dolores are the proud parents of a baby boy born on September 10 at Mercy Hospital in Durango. He weighted 7 lb. 81/2 oz., and has been named Marty Dee. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith of Pagosa. Paternal grandmother is Lola Goodall of Lebanon.

Farmers and Ranchers Asked to Report When Burning Brush

Dolores firemen responded to a fire call about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday and found a large brush fire in the Lewis area. They had numerous calls reporting the fire which was a burning windrowed pile of brush about a quarter of a mile long. Fire Chief Wayne Carrigan said that people planning on burning brush, if they would call the fire dept. and tell them, it would be real helpful and save them going on calls when they were not needed
