Golden Sunrise Acupuncture opens in Cortez

Seattle-trained specialist returns to Southwest Colorado
Anna Osuna has opened Golden Sunrise Acupuncture Clinic at 2423 E. Main St. in Cortez.

Anna Osuna has opened Golden Sunrise Acupuncture Clinic at 2423 E. Main St., Suite. 5 in Cortez.

Osuna spent time during her career in the Pacific Northwest and Dolores. Now, she and her husband have moved back to Southwest Colorado in order to retire here, she said.

The name of her business comes from the sunrises she would see coming over the Cascades when she lived in Winthrop, Washington, she said. It’s a similar scene in Cortez, too, she said.

“It’s similar here with the sunrises coming over the La Plata Mountains,” Osuna said.

Osuna has been practicing acupuncture for 18 years, and she specializes in gentle acupuncture, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder, sports or work-related injuries and post-surgical wellness. She studied at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Seattle, earning a master’s degree in acupuncture. She is a nationally certified and Colorado licensed acupuncturist.

She describes her style as Japanese minimalist, but she also is familiar with Chinese acupuncture techniques, she said. If further treatment is needed after acupuncture, she also offers patent herbs and formulas made up for certain conditions, she said.

A Spanish-speaker, Osuna also went on four humanitarian aid trips in Central America, treating post-traumatic stress disorder clients, she said. She taught acupuncture techniques to people in remote areas, since the discipline is an economical one, she said.

“That was really satisfying,” Osuna said.

When she lived in Oregon, she spent time treating elderly patients, she said.

Osuna is accepting patients mostly by appointment but will accept some walk-ins, she said. Osuna may be reached at 970-560-5259.
