Two matches into the Colorado state wrestling tournament, Montezuma-Cortez High School junior Seager Oliver has left little doubt that he is the man to beat.

Competing in the 170-pound quarterfinals on Friday, Oliver looked absolutely dominant, completely controlling Jonathan Hernandez during a 16-0 technical fall victory. His victory follows a 15-0 win in the first round.

After Hernandez’s back early in the first period, Oliver racked up 11 consecutive points to pull ahead 11-0 entering the match’s second frame.

Continuing to toss Hernandez around like a rag doll, Oliver quickly scored five points to end the match with 1:34 left in the second period.

With the victory, Oliver moves on to the state semifinals, where he will take on Pueblo South’s Mark Espinoza (31-11) on Friday evening.

Ramos loses tight decision

Also competing in the quarterfinals for Montezuma-Cortez, 145-pound junior Justice Ramos fell to Pueblo West’s Travis Myers to move into the consolation bracket.

Tight from start to finish, an early takedown for Myers proved to be the difference as Ramos lost 4-2.
