Lobby taps Dolores manager

Mahoney

Dolores Town Manager Ryan Mahoney has been selected to serve a two-year term on the Colorado Municipal League board.

The organization focuses on informing leaders about local government issues through education and training, networking, and legislative topics. The CML is a well-known lobby group for Colorado towns and small cities.

"It is a great opportunity to learn more about the legislative process, and how to access technical assistance from the state," Mahoney said.

CML representatives act as an ombudsman for towns under 8,000 on the Western Slope and Four Corners part of Colorado.

"It gives smaller towns like Dolores, Rico, Ridgeway, Ophir, Norwood a voice in the legislature," he said.

The training will help Dolores better negotiate through complicated topics such as recreational marijuana laws, budgeting, TABOR issues, marketing, collective bargaining, and grant writing and grant opportunities.

"It helps small towns like us stay in the loop, and allows us to share our challenges and successes with other communities," Mahoney said.
