Chilcott opens Indian art shop in Mancos

Much of inventory is family-owned

Kelly Kilgore Chilcott has opened American Indian Art at 100 W. Grand Ave. in Mancos.

The store contains a large inventory of Navajo, Hopi, Zuni and other tribal artifacts such as bowls, textiles, kachinas and baskets.

“Lots of the inventory is owned by my family, and I am selling it for my family,” Chilcott said.

Chilcott’s parents were traders at Tuba City, Arizona, on the Navajo Nation starting in the 1950s, she said. She also has worked for 25 years as an appraiser for the Heard Museum of American Indian Art and History in Phoenix.

“Everything is authentic,” she said.
