The Mancos girls’ basketball team (3-11 overall, 1-8 in SJBL) was defeated by Ridgway (5-8 overall, 4-4 in SJBL) at home on Feb. 4.

Providing a handful of highlights for the Lady Jays in the 47-26 loss was senior Brittney Peacock, who scored a team-high 14 points.

Eight of Britney Peacock’s points came during the game’s most competitive stretch, which culminated with her sister, Erika Peacock, muscling her way into the lane for an offensive rebound and layup to cut Ridgway’s lead to 13-8 with 7:08 left in the second quarter.

Ridgway closed the first half on a 9-4 run, however, and never looked back as the Lady Jays fell behind 36-17 at the end of the third quarter.

With his team out of the game in the fourth quarter, Mancos head coach Cory Cole emptied his bench . “They can gain valuable experience in games like this,” he said.

The Lady Jays received six points from Isis Jaime, two points from Erika Peacock, two points from Emily Most, and one point from Emily Cole.

The Lady Jays next game will take place against Dove Creek on Feb. 7, while Ridgway’s next game will take place in Ignacio on Feb. 11.
