Nine sentenced in Cortez for driving offenses

Retired judge fills in for Lawrence

Nine people were sentenced Tuesday in Montezuma County Court in connection with alcohol-related driving convictions.

Judge James Denvir, a retired judge from Archuleta County, was presiding in place of Judge JenniLynn Lawrence, who was at a judicial training convention.

Carwin Wauneka was sentenced to 60 days in jail for a third driving under the influence offense.Jolene Cantsee also was sentenced to 60 days in jail on work release for a third alcohol-related driving offense, as well as two years of probation.Wendy Ferguson was sentenced to 60 days in jail on work release in connection with a third DUI offense. She also will be required to complete three years of probation and 120 hours of public service.Gail Begay, Andrew Gallegos, Corey Jernigan, Dewarren Marshall and Jackie Moore all were sentenced to one year of probation in connection with a first alcohol-related driving offense.
