Woman airlifted to Farmington after Monday crash

Car, semitrailer were involved

Mancos Elementary School Principal Cathy Epps was airlifted to Farmington after a two-vehicle crash Monday morning on Colorado Highway 184, according to Colorado State Patrol officers.

The crash occurred just before 10 a.m. Monday about 3 miles north of Mancos and involved a car and a semitrailer, said trooper Nate Reid. Epps was driving a 2013 Ford Escape and collided with a 2016 Kenworth, driven by a man from Tennessee, said CSP Capt. Adrian Driscoll. There were no passengers, and the road was icy at the time, he said.

Epps was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital, and airlifted to Farmington. She was in critical condition, Driscoll said.

Epps hit a patch of ice while coming off County Road 40 and slid onto the highway into the semitrailer’s path, according to a page on the website CaringBridge. The car passed under the semi. Epps sustained head trauma, a punctured lung and a broken clavicle, according to the page.

The crash was still under investigation, Driscoll said.
