Consulting giant to close Durango offices

CH2M employees to work remotely, official says

Engineering and environmental consulting giant CH2M will close its leased offices at Tech Center Drive in Durango.

It is unclear when the location will be vacated, but CH2M spokeswoman Lorrie Crum said the company’s business model is shifting so that employees working out of the local office – there are about 10 – can work remotely.

Most of CH2M’s offices outside of its Englewood headquarters are temporarily leased as the company handles major projects, Crum said. She could not provide an official date for the office’s closing.

“Regarding our work in Durango, we provide a variety of services to private and public sector organizations in the greater area, including management services in water, wastewater, environmental and general service operations,” Crum wrote in an email. “The office decision isn’t specific to any singular project in Durango; it simply makes more sense for us to operate in a more nimble model, where teleworking is a win-win for clients and our employees.”

She added that employees spend most of their time in the field, so it isn’t economical to maintain office space. The change, she said, is not a workforce reduction.

CH2M ranks at No. 71 on Forbes’ largest private U.S. companies with reportedly $5.4 billion in revenue and 22,000 employees.

The Durango office originated from CH2M’s December 2007 acquisition of Trigon EPC, a leading engineering firm specializing in oil and gas projects.
