Kerri Orr was sentenced to 12 months probation in connection with a property crime charge.Montezuma District Court Judge Douglas Walker refused to accept a guilty plea Wednesday from Jason Walrod for what would have been an eighth alcohol-related driving conviction.
Prosecutors decided to try the case as a misdemeanor, because two of the prior convictions had taken place out of state.
Walrod asked Walker for a sentence that would help him stop his destructive behavior.
“I’m asking for any opportunity for rehabilitation so we can stop this cycle,” he told the judge.
Walker disagreed with prosecutors.
“I can’t justify sentencing this man to a misdemeanor,” he said. “I won’t accept this plea agreement.”
Walker said prosecutors would have to pursue a felony charge in the case. A trial date was set for Walrod in April.
