Durango man cited, two injured in Main Street crash

Durango man cited, two injured in Main Street crash
Cortez police and fire officials clear a crash scene Thursday about 7 p.m. at E. Main and Sligo streets.

A two-car crash at Sligo and East Main streets on Thursday evening injured two people and sent one to the hospital. The accident shut down three of four lanes of Main Street for about an hour.

Marvin Giersch, of Durango, 79, was driving a Ford Edge and failed to yield while making a left onto Sligo Street from Main Street, according to Cortez Police. He caused a collision with a Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by Holly Rotsaert, 42, and was cited for careless driving causing bodily injury. Rotsaert was transported to Southwest Memorial, and was transferred to another hospital, according to a Southwest Memorial spokesperson.
