The Onward! Foundation is seeking applicants for its grant program that benefits local nonprofits.

The organization is offering grants from $500 to $2,500, with an application deadline of Oct. 31.

“It is set up to help non-profits in the community,” said Nicci Crowley, relations director for Onward! “Nonprofits have a hard time getting funding, and this is another revenue source for their projects or daily operations.”

Last year, $8,000 in grants were distributed to local groups, including Southwest Colorado Concerts, CARRS Addiction Recovery, KSJD community radio, Dolores River Boating Advocates, Mancos Library, Montelores Early Childhood Council, and the School Community Youth Collaborative.

Onward! is a Cortez-based community foundation providing scholarships and grants to nonprofits. They collaborate with regional nonprofits by investing their endowment funds and earn market rates of return. Currently, they manage 42 funds with total assets over $2.2 million.

Since 2002, the foundation has given out $875,000 in grants, and $820,000 in scholarships.
